In October 2016, the president and co-founder of Highland Capital Management announced that Highland Dallas Foundation Incorporation had contributed $1 million towards helping victims of domestic violence under the care of Family Place in Dallas. The Highland Dallas Foundation is a branch of Highland Capital Management specialized in contributing towards humanitarian acts around the globe. The donated $1 million was part of the required $2.8 million needed for the Legacy Campaign. Highland Capital announced that it would provide a further 50 percent for every donation that does not exceed $1 million until the end of the campaign’s period on 4th April 2017.
The Legacy Campaign is a program of The Family Place and has an aim of enacting a new counseling center in Dallas to cater to victims of domestic violence. The structure will be named in honor of Ann Moody and have the designs of the architecture and design firm, Corgan. The facilities that will be available in this new center will be necessary for the rehabilitation of victims.
Ann Moody will include a dental and medical clinic, 13 emergency shelter bedrooms, an actual hotline number, several group and private counseling rooms, a pet shelter, a child development facility and a job training space. The Legacy Campaign will also avail a program that provides training on how teens can prevent and avoid bullying. Ann Moody will provide extra space for victims by accommodating 2000 victims annually. James Dondero stated that his firm was happy with the progress of the campaign and applauded that Dallas public community for the timely and enthusiastic support.
James Dondero started Highland Capital Management in 1993 to offer private equity funds, COLOs, REITSs, hedge funds, mutual funds and ETFs. He has dual majors in accounting and finance from the University of Virginia, and an honor in Commerce from McIntire School. Other additional certifications owned by Dondero include Certified Management Accountant and Certified Financial Analyst. He serves on the boards of MGM Studios and Jernigan Capital as a member and heads the boards of NexBank, NexPoint Residential Trust, CCS Medical and Cornerstone Healthcare as chairman.
